National K9 Certified Professional Dog Trainer Gaye A. Amick has been training dogs for over thirty years. She began developing her skills in dog training as a young teenager assisting her father with training of hunting and retrieval dogs.
Gaye has studied canine theory and evolution, studied under Scott Mueller, who was instrumental in developing one of the first handicap assistance/service dogs and Bob Jervis past Director of the International Association of Canine Professionals.
In the dog world there are several different types of personalities and energy levels. Each of those personalities and energy levels learns differently which is why Gaye believes a trainer should have the knowledge to train in a variety of techniques and styles. There is "NO ONE WAY" to train a dog.
Gaye enjoys learning knew things and continues her education by attending the seminars and workshops of trainers using different techniques so she can incorporate them into her training. Her desire to learn included attending and graduating from The National K-9 Learning Center. She has also studied Constructional Aggression Treatment aka C.A.T. (although a controversial form of behavior modification the approach was worth learning) .
Gaye has plans to attend The International School for Dog Trainers, Marc Goldberg's Force Free workshop, Chad Mackin's Pack to Basics workshop, Triple Crown's Academy for Dog Trainers as well as a chance to work with Dick Russell's Large Field Socialization. Stifle ones education is not in her handbook.
In 2004 she developed a Future Dog Trainers Apprentice Program for up and coming trainers. In 2009 she became a Mentor Trainer for the Animal Behavioral College out of California. A Psychiatric Service Dog Training Program was developed for 2010 at Northern Sky. Gaye''s certifications include: Puppy Development, Utility Training, Basic and Advanced Obedience, Off leash Obedience, Tracking, Soft Mouth Retrieval, Scent Detection (drug, cadaver, tobacco etc.), Behavior Modification and Personal Protection.

Three year old Canaan is soon to be one of our top Trainers at Northern Sky. He is pictured here practicing the "Finish" command with his dog Raine. The Finish command allows Canaan the ability to have his dog to return to him in a different way. Raine approaches Canaan from the right side, walks behind him and will take a seat on Canaan's left to await further instructions. Keep up the good work Canaan the dog training profession awaits you !!!
